Gift Cards for Gators--December 2025

More than 120 Gators participated in the 2nd annual Gift Cards for Gators program at the College Drive Walmart. Each student was gifted a $100 Walmart gift card after working with a mentor teacher to learn budgeting and thank you note etiquette. During their shopping trip, students had to purchase a gift for a family member, a gift for themselves, and a gift for someone at Glasgow. Any leftover funds were sent home with the students for their families' use. Special thanks to First United Methodist Church of Baton Rouge, Quota Club of Baton Rouge, Hilton Baton Rouge Capital Center, LS Womack, Stantec, and the numerous faculty, friends, and families who donated gift cards this year. Ms. Brannan's Art Classes--November 2025

Gators in Ms. Brannan's art classes have been learning about mixed media, the use of various materials when creating an artwork. Students looked at the history of graffiti, its use, and how it can be connected to ancient peoples. This project required students to plan their idea including the word, colors, and decorations. Students glued together the popsicle sticks for the fence, drew on ideas, colored in with acrylic markers, and glued the decorations of their choice. Super fun!

Student Trip to California--October 2025

Mrs. Roy’s student trip to California was wonderful! Students visited the Getty Villa Museum’s classical collection and the Santa Monica Pier, and then boated to the Channel Islands National Park for a stunning hike.

Hands-On History--October 2025

Glasgow's Hands-On History class has been tending a garden since the start of school, and today was our first harvest. We got a ton of lettuce, some arugula, and one large turnip with its abundant greens. Coming soon...cucumbers, broccoli, and maybe even some brussels sprouts! Do you know a lot about gardening? "What Have We Done?" Art Show--December 2024

"What Have We Done?" art show featuring paintings, clay sculptures, and plastic bag and bottle jellyfish expresses humanity's impact on the Earth through pollution, deforestation, and other harmful environmental practices. Students explored these harmful practices through researching and subsequently creating the artwork to express their findings. Students created paintings to show two versions of our reality. Some students painted how the Earth looks now due to negative effects: no forests, litter, and dying animal, while some students painted how the Earth COULD look if we cared more: nature flourishing, animals thriving, and the Earth being healed. Students also wrote poems from the perspective of mother nature or from the outside looking in. Overall, this show explored the consequences of humanity but also what humanity is capable of fixing. Thank you to Ms. Brannan's art students for sharing their work with us!

Talented Theatre Field Trip--December 2024

Some of our Talented Theatre Gators visited our local BR Proud/Fox44/NBC news station to wrap up their Broadcasting Unit. Our Gators got a tour of the control room, interviewed the anchors, reporters, and meteorologists, got to explore working with a green screen for the weather, and were able to sit at the anchor table and read from the teleprompter! They even got a shoutout on the morning news!

Holiday Meal Boxes--November 2024

Glasgow Gators were able to supply 200 Glasgow families with holiday meal boxes! Huge shout out to our sponsors who made this possible UnitedHealthcare and Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. THANK YOU and Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Can You Dig It? An Evening of Hands-On History--November 2024

Ms. Roy and her students sponsored Can You Dig It? An Evening of Hands-On History on November 20. At this event, visitors had opportunities to dig for artifacts, play ancient games, write on papyrus, and make mosaics. 

Healthy Living Lessons--November 2024

During PE, Gators learned about healthy living through interactive presentations by community partners. Stations included: gardening with United Healthcare Community Plan, Tai Chi with Glasgow parent Dr. Jie Gu, the importance of sleep with health educator Adrian Brumfield Sr., and healthy snacks with Glasgow parent Cathy Carmichael of Pennington Biomedical Research Center. This health event was made possible through the Project SEED grant and United Healthcare.

Diwali Celebration--November 2024

Glasgow Gators had a fabulous time learning about Diwali! Presenters taught Bollywood dancing, provided henna art, and provided snacks from India! The Gators love to celebrate all of the cultures that make up our Glasgow family!

Fall Fest--October 2024

Thank you to everyone who came to our Fall Fest! We had a FABULOUS time and a great turn out! We hope you enjoyed it as much as we had hosting it!

Talented Visual Art--October 2024

Glasgow's Talented Visual Art program has created posters that speak "Peace Without Limits." For peace to be anything more than a possibility, we need to make it a priority. This year our young artists have created posters that speak to our world’s infinite potential for kindness once we commit to pursuing the idea of peace without limits. 

Soarin' With Sa'Myah--September 2024

A few of our Gator ladies had a goal setting session with starting forward Sa'Myah Smith from the LSU Women's Basketball team! Sa'Myah's Community Giveback Program, "Soaring with Sa'Myah," allowed our ladies to hear from an elite STUDENT athlete. Each of our ladies with guidance from Sa'Myah set a goal for themselves and listed out who can help them to achieve that goal. We look forward to hosting Sa'Myah again when she comes back to spend time with the Gators again!

Club Day--September 2023

The Gators had a BLAST at our first club day! Lots of hands on adventures and meeting new people! Every student selected a club sponsored by a faculty member or a team of faculty members. Below are pictures from our jewelry making club, our WWII club, and our "Welcome to Hogwarts!" club. ​

Holi--March 2023

The Gators had a blast celebrating ART! We joined a Holi celebration to welcome the coming of spring with a Glasgow community art project. Students threw balloons filled with paint at a large canvas that is mounted to D building on campus. Students were then allowed to take water blasters (also filled with paint) to add extra pizzazz! Facepainting, art inspired button making, and a student art show rounded out our FABULOUS event. Shout out to our talented art students for all of their hard work and Ms. Dave! The Glasgow Middle School PTO came through with being our extra hands throughout the day! Community partner Walgreens (Siegen and Perkins) came through with donations of water and Gatorade!

CTEC Field Trip

EBR CTEC is a regional training provider for high school students in high demand, high paying jobs in the Capital Region. CTEC provides rigorous, project-based instruction, Industry Based Certifications (IBC), and dual enrollment opportunities that can be used towards an Associate Degree while in high school. The Gators were IMPRESSED and walked away excited about their future opportunities in high school!

Ms. Dave's Talented Visual Art Class--Mud and Mirrors Project (Tennessee Valley Museum of Art)

"Darshan: The Visions of India" Invitational Art Show was organized by the Tennessee Valley Museum of Art. The Visons of India art show is from March 19th-April 30th. The Tennessee Valley Art Museum is celebrating the diverse culture, traditions, and art of India with "Darshan: Visions of India" by exploring ancient India to highlight the lived experiences of today's Indian Americans. With Mrs. Dave, the Glasgow Talented Art students were invited for this special exhibition for their "Mud and Mirror project"- folk art from India . The opening reception was on March 19th.
The Mayor of Tuscumbia AL, Mr. Kerry Underwood, inaugurated the event. He was very impressed by the students' work. Please enjoy the installation photos from the Tennessee Valley Museum of Art. 

Ms. Dave's Talented Visual Art Class--Mud and Mirrors Project (Shaw Center)

Ms. Harlan's Talented Visual Art Class--Fantastical Humans Project

Students in Mrs. Harlan's Talented Art classes are learning about proportions of the face this year and have just completed a ceramics project sculpting Fantastical Humans. These sculptures were created with earthenware clay to be fired in a kiln and then painted.

Ms. Kelly's Physical Science Class

Students in Ms. Kelly's Physical Science class recently completed a roller coaster project. In addition to making a track that could successfully get a rolling marble through a loop and up an incline, students had to calculate kinetic and potential energy along the track as well as velocity, acceleration, and momentum.  They were also required to use recyclable materials.  One group even 3D printed their track using a biodegradable plastic--it took 18 hours just to print the track! 

Ms. Dave's Talented Visual Art Classes--Peace Posters

Ms. Geeta Dave's talented art students are getting ready for the International Peace Poster Contest (2021-2022). This year's theme for the poster is " We Are All Connected" --the things that keep us connected—to each other, to our communities, and all together around the world. By creating peace posters, it gives children everywhere the chance to express their visions of peace and inspire the world through art and creativity.
